Phylis (Faye) Flynn was born and raised as one of eight children in Kippens, NL. She started painting in oils and acrylics following high school and didn’t start using watercolors until 2006. Once a full time nurse, turned teacher of nursing, turned secondary school teacher, Phylis has always enjoyed the challenge of learning new things.  According to Phylis,

“My art usually comes from seeing images in nature that I find intriguing for some reason or other. I try to take that image, and using colour, bring that same focal point alive in a way that everyone can see. I started with oils, just after high school. The teacher would only let us use four colors of paint. This was a great way to learn how to mix colors. Later I started painting with acrylics. I knew that acrylics would be forgiving, a great way to learn how to manipulate colour, add dimension, and have some fun. Once I gained some confidence with acrylics, I moved on to watercolours. I had always wanted to paint with watercolours, and now find that I can achieve so much more dimension, liveliness, and light with watercolours. My goal is to create an image with colour that draws a person to stop and stare at, without really knowing why but just knowing that they connected with it. I have been painting seriously for ten years.”
